Despite that both the VolariDUO and Volari V8 cards have been for sale in the retail market, not much XGI cards are around. I found this Volari V8 on a Dutch auction website long time ago and bought it immediately. The seller indicated that the card was from a friend who reviewed/tested graphic cards. Take a good look at this card and notice the little white sticker. All the review-cards (and lot's of product on CeBIT for example) have these stickers.

I bought this card on a fair in 2005. It's made by WMA, a company without a name nor website. I bet WMA consists of two persons sitting at home, drinking a beer, finding out there were a few thousand Volari V3 chips in stock. A few moments later they managed to get cards ready and sell them.

Because I didn't own a Volari V3-based card I decided to buy it and test it. I didn't really use this card because it wasn't 100% stable in 3D-mode. Yet it ran fine in 2D-mode and it did for a while. After unplugging the card I noticed that some of the capacitors were bulged. Along with the Leadtek WinFast A250 Ultra, this is one of the few cards I've seen that suffer from these problems. Nevertheless it still works.

Driver-technically this is not the best card out there. While it runs it's not 100% stable and some games don't render properly. For example: I noticed a lack of shadows in MDK2. I'm not sure if the stability is due the drivers or the nature of the card. This is something I'll find out when I obtain another, non-WMA, Volari V3 card. > Read more

My second WMA Volari V3 card. I found it cheap somewhere :).

The Volari V3 is derived from the Trident XP4, which never made it to the market. It's a DirectX 8.1 compliant chip with low power consumption (and low performance ;)). > Read more
